Falernum is a liqueur developed in Barbados in the 18th century. It was first made by blending rum, sugar, lime juice and certain spices on the sugar estate. When rum moved from being made on the sugar estate to being blended and bottled in Bridgetown so too did Falernum. In 1890 famed rum blender John D. Taylor refined this recipe into an award-winning liqueur that became an essential ingredient in tropical cocktails.
